John Dokken is widely known as one of the leading Tennis Professionals in the DC Metropolitan area based on his coaching success, his “caring connection” with his students and his high level of success as a player.
John joined Chestnut Forks Tennis & Fitness in 2011 and quickly became known as the “Tennis Whisperer” because he quickly moved a wide variety of players to the next level and beyond.
John’s playing accomplishments include: Two-time New York State High School Champion, Top 20 Junior in the U.S., #1 singles and doubles at University of Virginia, #1 position on a professional team in Dusseldorf, and 3 years as a touring professional on the ATP tour in locales such as Hawaii, Spain, and France, including wins over Jimmy Arias (achieved top 5 ATP world ranking) and Paul Annacone (achieved top 12 ATP world ranking and long time coach of Pete Sampras and Roger Federer).
On the coaching front, John was a leading Pro at Amelia Island Plantation, The Country Club of Detroit, and the Wintergreen Resort, before becoming the Head Coach at the University of Virginia for 3 years and General Manager and Director of Tennis at the Stonebrook Club for 15 years.
John has coached several junior players to successful high school careers, high junior rankings and collegiate careers and scholarships, including #1 varsity players at such schools as Syracuse University, Penn State University, University of Richmond, and Old Dominion University.
Dokken has also coached seven different adult USTA League teams who advanced to national playoffs, including a National Champion Team in 2010.
John invests himself in all his students and he communicates teaching techniques in a straightforward and understandable way so players can learn and develop quickly. He believes a common sense approach makes tennis more enjoyable and fun for every player.

John received his BA in Education from the University of Virginia and his MBA from James Madison University. He resides in Winchester, Virginia
Martin Brown is a Warrenton, VA native who played high school tennis at Liberty and NCAA DI & DIII Tennis at George Mason University and Christopher Newport University respectively. Martin has taught tennis for over 10 years in Northern Virginia and California. He also was the assistant tennis coach at Shenandoah University for two seasons and has coached local high school teams including Foxcroft and Wakefield. He is currently finishing his Physical Education degree and teaching licensure at GMU. Martin is very enthusiastic to be with the Chestnut Forks team of coaches and will bring a very positive and energetic coaching style.
Susan has played USTA Tennis for over 10 years. She holds a current NTRP rating of 3.5 and competed at National level in Arizona. Susan is the 10 & Under teacher and coordinator for Chestnut Forks Junior Tennis Academy. Susan enjoys teaching players to enjoy the sport of a lifetime.
